ABOUT FACULTY

The Faculty of Physical Education in Novi Sad, was founded in 1974.
The teaching staff holds the following university titles: full professor, assistant professor, associate professor, instructor, instructor trainee, and lecturer.

The Faculty conducts graduate (four years) and master (two years) studies. In order to enroll in the graduate studies, all candidates must pass the skills and abilities entrance examination. The condition for enrolling master-degree studies is that the average grade of graduate studies is minimum eight. If this condition is not fulfilled the candidate must take differential examination. Any candidate who has defended the master's thesis may register for defending doctoral dissertation. After finishing graduate studies, the student attains professional title of Professor of Physical Education and diploma of graduate coach in particular sports field, diploma of graduate organizer of sports recreation or diploma of graduate kinesitherapist.

Following the defending of master's thesis, the candidate is conferred the title of the Master of Arts in Physical Education.

Defending doctoral dissertation rewards the candidate with the title of Philosophy Doctor in Physical Education.
Until the academic year 2000/2001, 1475 students have attained the title of Bachelor of Arts, 133 students have acquired the title of Master of Arts, and 49 have been conferred the title of Philosophy Doctor. The studies are conducted in the premises of the Main Office in Novi Sad. Practical classes are also conducted in open-air sports facilities located within the University Campus, as well as in tourist seaside and ski centers.

The Faculty of Physical Education initiated research work in 1975. Five projects have been realized since then through financial support of the Government. For this purpose, the Faculty is equipped with up-to-date diagnostic sports equipment.

The Faculty has also been involved in international cooperation with related institutions. One of the latest ongoing activities worth mentioning is membership in the Association of Academic Sports Institutions of Danubian countries. The initiator of the first conference was the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education in Novi Sad. The Conference was held in Novi Sad in 1996, when the participants from Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia also signed a Protocol on mutual cooperation. Four conferences have been held so far, in Novi Sad, Budapest, Kalush and Bratislava.

Following the democratic changes in 2000, the policy of the Faculty is to establish cooperation with related institutions especially in former Yugoslavia and the countries of Southern and Eastern Europe, as well as with other related institutions throughout the world.

The Faculty can be proud of giving education to a number of Olympic medallists: Aranka Binder (shooting), Zorica Vojnovic-Krcmar (handball), Milan Janjic (canoeing), Slobodan and Tadija Kacar (boxing), Slavko Obadov (judo), Ivan Frgic (wrestling), and Stevan Horvat (wrestling).
